DAYSTAR SCHOOL IS GROWING!

To meet the increased demand for an excellent, faith-based, culturally-engaged education in the heart of Chicago, Daystar has plans to expand the Wonder Zone Pre-Kindergarten Program.

The renovation of the southwest corner of the current facility will add a newly designed Pre-K area and free up two classrooms. This will enable Daystar to once again have a Music/Spanish classroom and a dedicated Middle School area.

Daystar School offers flexible 2, 3, or 5 half-day and full-day Pre-K program options. Children must be 3 years and potty-trained by Sept. 1 to be eligible. For more information or to schedule a Thursday Tour, contact Simone Widney, 312.791.0001 or s.widney@daystarschool.org.

15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Thank you to all those who helped us to celebrate 15 years as a school at our 6th Annual Passport Dinner and Silent Auction on Saturday, March 24. This annual event helps to support Daystar's Passport to Education Scholarship Program that provides funds, enabling over 50% of our K-8 students to receive tuition assistance. For more information or to make a tax-deductable donation to our Passport Program contact Criseyda Dowd, 312.791.0001x103 or c.dowd@daystarschool.org

MILLION PENNY PROJECT

Daystar School launched our "Million Penny Project" in January 2011. The project is designed not only as a fundraiser, but as a learning opportunity. Younger students are able to hone their math skills through counting and sorting, while older students study concepts such as the history of the penny and American money, the process of minting, and the basics of economics. To date, we have collected over $876,000 pennies!

First Day of School

Both students, faculty, and administration were excited for the start of the 2011-12 school year on Wednesday, August 24. Excitement was in the air as old friends reunited and made new friends.

On the first day, each class took time to EXPLORE the school where they had an opportunity to DISCOVER new additions and changes. Our school theme this year is Explore | Discover | Create.

THE CROSSROAD

Mosaic artist, Chris Zonta, designed and created this unique mosaic entitled, 'The Crossroad' as an expression of Daystar School's mission to be a Light in the World. Ms. Zonta included Daystar students in the project which uses ceramic tile, marble, glass, mirror and millefiori. The 6.5' x 14' mural makes a beautiful addition to our Gathering Space, and serves as a reminder of Daystar School's faith-based, culturally-engaged setting in downtown Chicago.
