Daystar is a private, non-denominational Christian school that takes culture and the Bible seriously, celebrating both.

To be accepted, parents must agree to have their children taught by the principles outlined in Daystar's Statement of Faith.

The school started in the fall of 1997 with 12 students.

Enrollment for the 2012-13 school year is 235 students.

Class size is limited to 24 students in K-8 and 20 in PK.

Student/teacher ratio is 1:12 in K-4 and 1:10 in PK.

PK-8 accreditation by Christian Schools International and AdvancEd.

Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to begin Kindergarten; 3 years old on or before September 1 and fully potty-trained to begin Pre-Kindergarten.

The K-8 program includes art, music, science, physical education, and Spanish, taught by specialists.

Wireless internet access in every classroom with computers available for student use. One-to-one computing is integrated in the middle school program.

The program emphasizes building a safe, nurturing community.

There is a focus on using the city as a classroom with Learning Excursions and guest presenters.

PK-8 teachers hold teaching certificates from the State of Illinois and are graduates of 4 year colleges/universities.

All teachers are required to engage in ongoing professional growth and encouraged to obtain advanced degrees. Approx. 33% of our teachers have a master's degree.

Weekly cross-grade activities.

K-8 school hours are 8:00 am to 3:00 pm four days a week and 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesdays. PK hours are 8:00 am to 12:00 pm for the half day program and 8:00 am to 3:00 pm for the full day program.

The PK program offers 2, 3, or 5 half or full day weekly options.

Before and after school programs are available. After school enrichment classes are also offered for grades K-8.

Students bring bag lunches with hot lunches available five days a week.

Parents transport students to and from school.

Graduates have been accepted at select enrollment high schools including: Whitney Young, Walter Payton College Prep, Jones College Prep, Lane Tech, Lindbloom Math & Scicence Academy, Lincoln Park Baccalaureate, and many private high schools including: St. Ignatius, The Latin School, Timothy Christian School.
