The learning space for students at Daystar extends far beyond the walls of the classrooms. Daystar's curriculum is developed on the premise that the entire city is the classroom. The cultural richness of Chicago and the surrounding area is an exciting arena for students to explore and learn. Nearly every week students and teachers travel to businesses, museums, zoos, art galleries, nature preserves, farms, neighborhoods, concert halls, theatres, parks, or churches for learning activities and lessons.

Our location near the Loop makes many city resources readily available to students and teachers. These visits are linked to thematic units of study and students are taught how to learn in each of these environments.

The Harold Washington Library is within walking distance of the school and serves as our research center. Park facilities and a gym at a nearby fitness center are used for physical education.

In the Middle School program, students are introduced to the challenges and problems of urban environments as they confront the brokenness in culture and explore organizations and agencies that are working to bring God's shalom to the city.
